Review of Books Read 2020

For everything else that happened in 2020, I had a good year of reading - 124 books, the most since i had kids!
I took comfort in re-reading lots of old favourites and my childhood favourites (Heidi, Noel Streatfield) during lockdown and reminded myself again that losing myself in a good book is excellent for my mental health!

I seem to have read around several themes this year

Greek myths
Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief: Rick Riordan &
Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters: Rick Riordan &
Mythos: Stephen Fry &
Percy Jackson and The Titan‘s Curse: Rick Riordan &
Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian: Rick Riordan &
Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth: Rick Riordan &
Heroes: Stephen Fry &
A Thousand Ships: Natalie Haynes

Feminism and other causes
The Guilty Feminist; Deborah Frances-White &
Bloody Brilliant Women: Cathy Newman &
Airhead: Emily Maitlis &
Feminists don't wear pink and other Lies: Scarlett Curtis &
How to be a woman: Caitlin Moran &
The Vagina Bible: Dr Jennifer Gunter &
Hold On, But Don't Hold Still: Kristina Kuzmic &
Untamed: Glennon Doyle &
More than a Woman: Caitlin Moran &
The Shift: Sam Baker &
The Trouble with Men: Richard Herring &
Why I'm no longer talking to white people about race: Reni Eddo-Lodge &
In Black and White: Xandra Wilson

South Africa and Room to read
Long Walk to Freedom: Nelson Mandela &
Born a Crime: Trevor NoahBorn a Crime: Trevor Noah &
Creating Room to Read: John Wood &
Purpose Inc: John Wood

Where Memories Go: Why Dementia Changes Everything: Sally Magnusson &
Contented Dementia: Oliver James

But if I must, here are my picks from 2020...

Best Book (Fiction): Rodham: Curtis Sittenfield

Best Book (Non-Fiction): Dear Reader: The Comfort and Joy of Books: Cathy Rentzenbrink and The Shift: Sam Baker

Best Chicklit: Christmas at the Island Hotel: Jenny Colgan followed closely by Winter Solstice: Rosamunde Pilcher

Book which made me change/gave me most food for thought: Why I'm no longer talking to white people about race: Reni Eddo-Lodge

Best Old Favourite: Heidi:  Johanna Spry

Author Discovery: *The Lido: Libby Page & The 24 hour Cafe: Libby Page

Worst Read:  Didn't have one, they were all 3 stars or up!
