Turn, Baby, Turn!

I had possibly my last appoinment yesterday with my gynaecologist. Baby is still quite comfortable in his or her breech position - bottom down, feet and head up! And he or she shows no signs of moving...

I am going to continue with the acupuncture/moxibustion, plus taking up contorted positions.

She really advised me against trying for a breech delivery. It's high risk, and they don't like doing it for a first birth, plus baby might be on the big side. He or she is already 2.6kg at 34 weeks.

I have an appointment in 2 weeks time at the hospital to discuss my options re the breech birth. They will probably want to schedule a c-section in for week 38 or 39. There is also an external massage technique to help breech babies turn, called external cephiliac version , which I want to try. It is likely that I will need to go to another hospital for this. It has some success. However, you need to be constantly monitored, because there is a small risk and they need to be ready to do a c-section at that point. I have also heard that some babies do turn of their own accord, but quite late on.

I am trying to get my head around all this information. I really don't want a c-section, but am coming round to the idea that a breech delivery is unnecessarily risky, given how long we have waited for this precious one. But still if there is any way that baby will turn, I would like to deliver "normally", whatever that means! But as mr.ncot says, the pregnancy and getting pregnant has not followed a normal, straightfoward route, so why should the birth be any different.

In short, please turn baby turning vibes across the alps :-)
