Death throes of a dell laptop

My laptop is really very unwell. The harddrive is making the most awful crunching noises and when I boot up, it often can't "find" the operating system. I fear this time my laptop may be beyond help :-(
If I don't appear online for a while, it will be because my trusted laptop has finally passed to the great circuit board in the sky!

In other news, we're just back from a lovely long weekend in Dublin, I have a busy week coming up at work, I have my German oral exam next Saturday and I have no idea how I'm going to fit Nanowrimo in.
