The first separation is the hardest

Dear Markus

Today is your first step towards independence and it is exciting and scary for all of us. This afternoon we will take you to your nursery for the first time, so that you can meet the staff and children there. This will be your second home, wehre you will spend 3 days a week, whilst we go to work. You will meet new friends, learn to play with other babies, have relationships with other carers.

You are such a happy, smiling, contented and confident baby and I know that you will cope with this big change just fine. I think this is harder for me and your Dad. I kept you safe for 9 months before you were born. I looked after you full time for 6 months, kept you close to me, fed you, cuddled you. And now it's time for me to give you up for a few days a week. I feel very emotional about it - you still seem so small and fragile. And yet I know this is a positive change for you. And it will be for me. After I stop crying and get used to the change!

We wish you lots of fun and exploring and new experience at nursery and we will always be there for you.

much love
your Mami x

Resolution Update - Jan 2010

Resolution Update January
It has been valuable this month to start thinking about goals, routines and plans in preparation for going back to work. I have been using January as a transition month, to start getting more active.

Write Daily
Whilst I haven't blogged on lj each day, I have been twittering and done some writing in my moleskin. I remind myself that writing helps me to make sense of life and to quieten my brain down. I need to try and do this daily, remembering that even 140 characters on twitter is more than enough. I like having a snapshot of my month in twitters. Writing does not need to be long and complex. Quick and snappy is good!

Exercise Daily
Have been doing well on this - enjoying using my wii balance board, clocking up the time, earning calories, learning to find my centre of gravity. I have also been using Davina's post natal exercise dvd - which is a moderate 40 minutes. In time I will graduate to her harder DVDs. I think that I will be doing more walking in February, taking Markus too and from the nursery.

Maintain food and activity diary
On my Wii I have been logging my Wii activity, other activities, my steps etc. Overall I have seen a very small weight loss in a month (1.3kg). I have not yet been logging my calorie intake, since I am still breastfeeding, but have been trying to eat more sensibly.

Overall?
Although I am a bit discouraged that my weight loss is so small, I am pleased that I have fitted some exercise into each day. And I remember the following quote:
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle
