Lent (37) for yesterday !

Still catching up on all my posts, bear with me!

1. Focus on completing dissertation
Got this email from my supervisor yesterday
"I’ve quickly read through your dissertation – I must admit that, owing to time pressures, I had to skim rather than read, but it’s clear that it’s now ready for submission and I will ,of course, be reading it in depth when I act as first marker. It may be a bit touch and go with the exam board – and there's no guarantee - but we’ll do our best. Once the Board is out of the way, I hope we can start thinking about a joint publication. Your data is far too good to waste!"
Can't quite believe it, it's nearly over, just doing final checks...And managed to get it down to 100 pages :-)

2. Watch less television & 3. Spend less time online
My habits have definitely got better, but I'm fed up with updating these now :-)

4. Take exercise each day
Putting sofa back to gether and cleaning living room floor!
Friday yoga

5. Reflect on 5 positive things per day
1. having a wonderful yoga session
2. getting positive feedback from supervisor - she's still talking about doing a paper together
3. having a fantastic evening with my mate Jackie - wine, food and gossip (about men, relationships, babies, work, life, the universe and everything!)
4. enjoying the spring sunshine!
5. just starting to feel that my life is coming together finally....

Sofa, naked and then clothed again!


Yesterday I introduced my friend Jackie to the yoga session and just for a change we had a full class, 6 of us. There was a student at the front who was just amazingly brilliant, it was wonderful to watch her poses. Her neck, shoulders and back were just so muscley and toned. And then at the end we found out that she was the owner and creator of our yoga studio :-)

I discovered again last night that yoga is hard work, that I can't balance for love nor money and that leaving your mobile phone on doesn't help you when you're supposed to be meditation "Oh, will my phone go off any minute?" lol :-)

My choices...
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Douglas Adams - read it as an impressionable, slightly lonely teenager and it made me feel okay to think about life, the universe and everything. It also opened me up to a whole new range of comedy ie Adams, Monty Python :-)

Circle of Friends: Maeve Binchy - took this as one of only 3 books on my gap year before university. Just a good read, about friends, blokes and university. Still remains a pretty constant companion and reminds me that I was brave when I was 18,

Lost in a Good book: Jasper Fforde - My new post Adams hero! This was definitely last year's choice - reminds me of the joy of finding bookcrossing and a whole new world of friends as passionate about reading as I am. Reminds me that a good book can take you away from loneliness and insecurity, esp. in a foreign land

Effi Briest: Theodor Fontane - The subject of my dissertation for my first degree in German Studies. One of many books I read and loved in German. 19th century prussia, stiff upper lipped Prussians, adultery, snow and horse driven carriages and a complex code of societal honour and hypocrisy. Plus Fassbinder made a cracking film out of it

Anne of Green Gables: L M Montgomery - my childhood favourite and the first book that a friend recommended me to read. I was 9, she was my canadian penpal. 23 years later and we both still love reading and she's now my sister in law :-) As a child the book taught me that it's okay to be different, to strive to learn and that it's important to have some friends who are "kindred spirits"
