Learning to scoot

Alan’s first priority was teaching our nieces to scoot. Emma seemed happy to try, but quickly discovered that someone else (Helen for example) was happy to push her along. Emma’s stubborn streak meant she kept scooting and scooting, albeit slowly. We practised outside the flat, then scooted into Zurich to the lake, then back along Bahnhofstrasse. Emma was unstoppable, and was quite unconcorned about falling behind. Every now and again we heard a plaintive “Mummy, wait for me!

Meeting the Teddies

/
Emma and Clare absolutely loved the teddies. All weekend was heard cries of “Teddy!” from both of them. It took us about an hour to walk part of the way down Bahnhofstrasse on Friday evening, since every teddy we passed had to be named, talked to, prodded and photographed :-) A particular favourite was this pink spiky teddy….

Nail Painting

/
When we met the family last year in France, I painted the girl’s nails. They actually remembered this, so during the course of the weekend I painted Emma’s fingernails, Clare’s fingernails, then Emma’s toenails and Clare’s toenails! They were great though, and amazingly, sat still long enough for the nails to be pretty much dry. Daddy of course was needed to blow on nails and check they were dry :-)

Just when we thought it was all over, one of them piped up, “Why don’t we do Mummy’s nails?”, lol :-) Poor Mummy then had her nails painted, but not in one colour, oh no! I’m wicked. “Clare, Emma, why don’t you choose which colour Mummy should have on her nails. Maybe we could paint each nail a different colour?” he he. So we did!

Playground by the lake

/
We had a lovely Saturday afternoon. We took the Limmatschiff from the Landesmuseum, along the river and across the lake to the GZ Wollishofen. The community centre has a cafe/bar and a children’s playgound. We met my friend Corinne there (KatColorado) with her children and had a great time. Everyone got on, everyone played on the swings and many photos were taken. Helen and Alan showed their age and/or lack of child experience by sitting there, yawning, absolutely kn*ckered!

Goodbye Connors!

/
The Connors left on Monday, and the flat now feels a bit big and empty and quiet. We found a few traces of the girls after they’d left, a hair clip and a little toy. We really miss seeing them grow up and they are such gorgeous girls! Emma kept asking me “Why are you married?” & “Where’s your children”. Hard questions to answer….

Alan's curry night!

/
Alan went on an indian cooking course last Sunday (there’s another one next Sun as well) and tonight we sampled the benefits. Very yummy! Lassi to drink, chicken biryani, raita & curried potatoes. The smell of spices and ghee as he was cooking were SO enticing… A good reward for all my flat cleaning. It’s taken me 3 days (on and off) to do a big clean of the flat after the Connor visit. It was well overdue for a clean, I am such a slutty housewife * lol* I bought a new mop thing (hard sell by the woman in the local hardware store) but it seems to do the job, and she also sold me some really nice-smelling citroen cleaning concentrate. Just the kitchen to do, then I can got to bed :-)
