My cousin, Michael Channer, was a pilot who had been working in Southern Africa for the past nine months. On Friday, September 9th, the plane he was piloting out of Livingstone, Zambia, malfunctioned shortly after take-off. Mike and his tourist passengers were killed on impact. Mum and I flew to Ottawa for his memorial service on September 18th, which was an extroadinary weekend of memories, grief and laughter. Gerry & Sharon, his parents, have set up a memorial website here, which is an amazing tribute to him from friends, family, colleagues. Mike was so focussed on what he wanted to do with his life and he achieved his goals. He reminds me that life is unpredictable and that we have to give and take what we can from it.
